We're diving into the juicy details of the VOcation Conference! So, grab your favorite drink and let's get cozy as we spill the beans on everything on the evolution of VOcation!

Meet Carin Gilfry, the Powerhouse Behind VOcation

First up, let's talk about Carin Gilfry, the brains behind the VOcation Conference. Carin is the founder of Voice Actors of New York, co-founder of NAVA and a co-founder of VOcation Conference. She's a go-getter with a background in opera singing, and she's not afraid to tackle the challenges of running a successful conference while balancing a busy life with two little ones.

The Origins of VOcation Conference

Ever wonder how the VOcation Conference came to be? It all started organically in 2017 when Carin realized there was a gap in the market for a voiceover group in New York City that catered to both men and women. Thus, Voice Actors of NYC was born, and it quickly grew into a thriving community offering donation-based classes and events. Fast forward to today, and VOcation Conference has become the go-to event for voice actors looking to dive deep into the business side of the industry.

What happens at VOcation?

  1. Educational Focus: The conference offers a strong educational focus, with sessions covering various aspects of the voiceover business. Topics include direct marketing, online casting, contracts negotiation, social media strategies, and website management.

  2. Panel Discussions: Participants can expect panel discussions featuring industry experts sharing insights and experiences. These panels likely cover a wide range of subjects relevant to voice actors, providing valuable information and perspectives.

  3. Small Group Sessions: In addition to larger presentations and panels, the conference also includes smaller breakout sessions. These sessions allow for more intimate discussions and interactions among attendees, fostering networking opportunities and deeper learning experiences.

From In-Person to Online

With the onset of the pandemic in 2020, VOcation Conference had to adapt to the new normal. What was originally planned as an in-person event transformed into a successful online conference, much to everyone's surprise. The virtual format allowed for interactive breakout rooms and engaging discussions, proving that you can still connect and learn from the comfort of your own home.

What's Next for VOcation?

As the VOcation Conference continues to evolve, Carin and her team have big plans for the future. From exploring controversial topics like the rise of platforms like Fiverr to maintaining a strong focus on education and empowerment, VOcation is all about equipping voice actors with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the industry.

While the conference has returned to in-person events, it will likely continue offering online components to accommodate attendees who prefer virtual participation. This hybrid approach ensures accessibility and flexibility for a diverse audience.
