Getting the Perfect Profile Picture - A Guide for Voice Actors
Getting that perfect profile picture for your website and social media - let's talk about why it's vital and what you should and shouldn't do!
Defining a Good Profile Picture
So, what makes a good profile picture? It's essential, especially for LinkedIn, to have a professional and likable image. Natasha has written about this in her blogs titled "Is Your Profile Pic Looking a Little Creepy?" and "Do You Look Influential, Capable, Likable?"
For help, you can download the app called "PhotoFeeler" where people can vote on profile pictures based on different traits. It's a platform where users can upload their photos and receive feedback and ratings on aspects like professionalism, trustworthiness, attractiveness, and more.
Preparation for a Photo Shoot
Research and Planning: Look at other people's photos to determine what you want and don't want in your own profile picture. Find a photographer who understands your needs and vision. Consider the location and how it aligns with your personal brand.
Clothing and Brand Expression: Choose clothing that best represents your brand and image. Consider how the background colors complement your marketing and branding. Ensure that your clothing and background align with your overall brand presentation. Don't be afraid to explore unique styles. However, ensure that these unique elements align with your overall brand image and professionalism.
Hair and Makeup: Getting ready for your shoot involves hair, makeup, and even evening out your skin tone. Planning for this takes time, and we recommend doing all this at least two weeks before your shoot. For any necessary touch-ups like Botox or tanning, plan those days in advance too. Prepare your hair in advance to avoid looking freshly styled on the shoot day. Hire a makeup artist or stylist if necessary to ensure a polished look. Focus on achieving an even skin tone through skincare routines, diet, and proper rest.
Details Matter: Pay attention to small details like grooming, avoiding tan lines, and maintaining a consistent look. Consider how facial hair, glasses, or accessories align with your brand image.
Photo Editing: While not always necessary, photo editing tools like Photoshop can enhance the final image. Ensure the photographer can do necessary touch-ups or consider hiring student photographers who may offer lower prices.
Relaxation and Direction: Be prepared to feel relaxed and take direction from the photographer. Being comfortable and open to guidance is crucial for a successful photo session, especially if you're not accustomed to modeling.
Keeping these pointers in mind and preparing well will help to ensure you feel comfortable and confident during the shoot.
