Cracking the Code for Clients & Cash in 2024…What we Think REALLY Works

Our Journey in Marketing: Navigating Voiceover Opportunities

We once again chat about the world of voiceover marketing! We're excited to share our fresh perspectives and insights as we kick off the new year with a revamped approach. So, grab a cup of tea and let's get started! Should we stick with what has worked well for us in the past, or explore new avenues?

The Challenge of Voice123

Our conversation quickly turned to the competitive nature of platforms like Voice123. Kim shares her experience of waking up to find herself in the top 30 percentile, a feat that seemed challenging given the fierce competition. Despite being in the top 20 for several months, she hadn't booked a single job in over six months. This raises questions about the effectiveness of these platforms despite their marketing potential.

More voice actors are actively auditioning for projects, making it harder to stand out and secure jobs. Even with a good ranking, securing work on Voice123 can be challenging, possibly due to the sheer volume of auditions and competition.

Kim reveals that she had initially subscribed to the higher-level membership on Voice123 but later downgraded to a lower level due to feeling like she was wasting money. This decision was influenced by her perception that being a lower rank in the audition list reduces her chances of being listened to, indicating a potential mismatch between subscription costs and the actual return on investment in terms of bookings.

It’s crucial to make ongoing evaluations regarding the cost-benefit ratio of membership levels on online casting platforms.

Navigating Agent Relationships

Moving on to agents - While agents bring great opportunities, a significant portion of bookings will  always come from our own efforts. There is an evolving role of agents in an industry increasingly dominated by online casting platforms.

Agents bring value by providing access to high-quality auditions with significant earning potential. These auditions can be enjoyable and creative, often of better quality than those found on platforms like Voice123.

A national agent can help access better quality jobs. Reaching out to agents every few months keeps them updated on recent work and capabilities. This proactive approach can help secure more opportunities in the future.

Diversifying Marketing Strategies

As we explore various marketing strategies, we emphasize the importance of maintaining relationships with past clients. Natasha’s monthly newsletter is highly effective as it keeps her name in clients' minds but also leads to direct job opportunities. Reaching out to individual companies, is a tactic that can yield positive results.

Embracing Personal Passions

One of the key takeaways from our discussion was the importance of showcasing our authentic selves in our marketing efforts. For example, Kim can share her passion for gardening, as it could be a unique way to connect with her audience and showcase her personality beyond her voiceover skills.

It’s clear that there's no one-size-fits-all approach to marketing in the voiceover industry. Each voice actor must find a strategy that aligns with their strengths and interests. By staying true to ourselves and maintaining meaningful connections, we can navigate the ever-changing landscape of voiceover marketing with confidence and success
